California-based Saosin burst onto the post-hardcore scene in March 2003 with their explosive screamo-tinged debut EP, Translating the Name, on Death Do Us Part. For the recording, the band was comprised of vocalist Anthony Green, quondam Slayer guitar technical school and drummer Pat McGrath, guitarist/vocalist Justin Shekoski (ex-As Hope Dies), and late Open Hand members bassist Zach Kennedy and guitarist/vocalist Beau Burchell. The band's name comes from a Chinese adage that elbow room "small heart," as in passion carefully. Shortly after the EP's closing, Kennedy exited (going on to join Ashlee Simpson's band) to be replaced by Chris Sorenson, and since McGrath had been enlisted solely to play drums on the record album, Saosin weren't coagulated until that July with the addition of permanent drummer Alex Rodriguez (also formerly of Open Hand).

Even though Translating had been out since March, the band didn't make its onstage debut until June. Their potent live execution and heavy Internet presence were linked with high extolment for their EP (comparison them to the excited katharsis of Glassjaw), cultivating an impressive tube following. The guys murder the road nationwide that summertime with Boys Night Out and Anatomy of a Ghost. Green parted slipway with the band in February 2004 for personal reasons, afterwards going on to front the emo/post-hardcore turnout Circa Survive. The other bandmembers pressed on without him, however, and though they had til now to find a lasting successor, stayed true to their Warped Tour obligation with Story of the Year's Phil Sneed pickings the microphone. By the summer's close, Cove Reber had become the band's novel vocalist. Saosin worn-out fourth dimension on winter's Taste of Chaos go before draw up with Capitol Records in March 2005. After numerous compilation appearances, a self-titled EP of demos and live cuts appeared that August; summer was worn out on co-headlining dates with Anberlin. Saosin continued work on their eponymic full-length debut with Howard Benson, in the end cathartic the long-awaited magnetic disc in September 2006. Plenty of touring followed well into the following year, including dates with bands like Senses Fail, Bleeding Through, A Static Lullaby, and Poison the Well.

Madonna's brother to publish book on life with her

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Pop star Madonna's brother Christopher Ciccone has written a memoir called "Life With My Sister Madonna," to be published next month by Simon and Schuster.

"Ciccone's extraordinary memoir is based on his life and 47 years of growing up with and working with his sister -- the most famous woman in the world," Simon and Schuster imprint Simon Spotlight Entertainment said.

Ciccone, one of Madonna's five siblings, wrote the book with Wendy Leigh. She has also written biographies of John F. Kennedy Jr, Britain's Prince Edward, Liza Minelli and ghost-written Zsa Zsa Gabor's autobiography.

Madonna's spokeswoman Liz Rosenberg had no comment.

Madonna, whose original name was Madonna Louise Ciccone, made her debut in 1982. Her first album, "Madonna," which included hits such as "Holiday," "Borderline" and "Lucky Star," helped her become one of the best-selling pop artists, with more than 200 million albums sold worldwide.

The book will be published on July 15, a month before Madonna celebrates her 50th birthday.

Top cop snorts at stars

Britain's most senior police officer said on Friday that pop stars and celebrities who are pictured apparently taking drugs should be put on trial to prove they were snorting talcum powder and not cocaine.London Metropolitan Police Commissioner Ian Blair said he wanted juries to decide whether famous figures caught on film were indeed taking illegal drugs even if it was impossible for police to prove what the substance actually was.A number of well-known stars, such as supermodel Kate Moss and Grammy-winning soul singer Amy Winehouse, have been pictured in national newspapers allegedly taking drugs, prompting police investigations that led to no charges. In an interview with the London Evening Standard, he said he had "directly asked" the Crown Prosecution Service whether it was reasonable celebrities should go on trial when "we can't tell what kind of white powder that is".- REUTERS
